UNN Change of Degree Programme
UNN Change of Degree Programme is a programme that allows students to apply for change of course (department). That is you don’t want to continue with your current department Electronics Engineering say, and want to switch to department of English Language and Literary Studies or any other department.What You Must know Before Obtaining the Change of Degree Form.
1. Application for Change of Degree Programme should be received at the end of each session. The processing of the application should be completed no later than one month from the beginning of the new session. The duration and procedures will be posted on the university website, www.unn.edu.ng, and portal, www.unnportal.com. So you have to be checking the school website to know when it will commence.2. Application for Change of Degree Programme should be completed within 2 weeks from the beginning of the session.
3. The Admissions Office will confirm the students’ eligibility for the new departments and process the applications of the students listed in the payment schedule.
4. At the end of the stipulated period, only those who have completed the process will be registered in their new departments. There will be no carryover of the process to another session.
5. For a student to change from one department to another, he/she must make the minimum GPA of 1. 00. Each department will determine the minimum cut off GPA for accepting students into the department, through Change of Degree Programme.
6. No other forms of payment should be made or collected for Change of Degree Programme, except that indicated in the Application procedure.
7. Normally, a student shall not be allowed to change his/her degree programme until he/she has completed at least one full academic year in the University. Official application forms for any change of degree programme may be obtained from the Registar’s Office, as explained in 1 above, after paying the prescribed fee.
8. For a student to change from one department to another, he/she must make the minimum GPA of 1. 00. Each department will determine the minimum cut off GPA for accepting students into the department, through Change of Degree Programme. Where a student is permitted to change his/her degree programme, the change may prolong the length of time he/she will stay in the University. 9. Courses taken in former departments which are relevant to the new department, including the General Studies courses, shall be credited to him/her regardless of his/her level of attainment in such courses. The remaining courses shall appear in the student’s academic records but shall not be taken into account in determining the student’s cumulative grade point average for graduation. The responsibility to decide on the relevant or otherwise of the courses already taken shall rest with the Head of the new department.
Note that most times the university overlook item eight (8) above. Number 7 is applicable to freshmen, see your Head of Department or contact the Admission Office while Change of Degree Form is still on to check if it is allowed.
Sometimes it may be required that students satisfy the minimum entry requirement of the new department. Because item three (3) above involves checking of your O,Level(s) (WAEC, NECO, and or NABTEB), the Admission Office will request for the unscratched scratch card(s) of your O,Level(s).
